The Chapter House Reconstruction Thus Far
Over the summer, some vast improvements have taken place at the shell that was once our proud Chapter's house.
The fire that tore though the roof and second floors in late April destroyed a majority of the rooms and their belongings. In order to put out the inferno, gallons and gallons of water had to be poured on the house, running though the floors and walls, severely damaging the main floor and the basement. After a successful volunteer clean-up weekend in May and the tireless efforts of the construction crew, the facility was finally cleared of debris, the inside was stripped to the studs, and new roof was attached by July. Because of all of the water damage caused by putting out the fire along with being boarded up in the summer heat to prevent further damage or theft, the house was ripe with mold and moisture. Through July and August, the chapter house had to be completely dried out and thoroughly environmentally cleaned before any more work could progress.
Concurrently, maintenance and restoration had to be done at the new temporary chapter house, formerly the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity chapter house, to make it livable and hospitable for our undergraduates for this academic year.
As the semester has finally gotten under way and the undergraduates have become settled in their temporary diggs, focus has switched back to Kingsley Court. Currently, ACB is finishing work to secure bids for the internal reconstruction along with securing money to finance the endeavor as our insurer is trying to pay as little as possible. Though frustrating, work is still moving steadily forward and we are still on track to be re-opened and re-dedicated for the fall semester of 2012.
We would like to again thank all of the brothers who have helped with this project thusfar, whether through financial contribution, physical labor, fundraising, and even just asking and caring about it. Through this whole ordeal, ACB and the undergrads have been able to carry on thanks to our alumni and will continue to carry on with your support. Check back within the next weeks to see photo albums of the reconstruction and get further updates.
Thanks and YITBOS.
